Simple and Easy Self-Treatment for Disc Degeneration

Uncategorized Nov 01, 2017

Dr. Cindy here with an easy exercise to help relieve neck pain. Today, I’m going to address a problem many people have in their neck called cervical disk degeneration. Cervical disk degeneration occurs when the space between the discs in your neck are narrowing and impinging on those nerves in your neck, causing discomfort or pain. I’m going to show you a really simple technique you can do at home to help stretch out your neck.

Step 1:
In a standing position, use a small towel or a pillowcase and wrap it behind your head, over your ears. If you have long hair, be sure to place the towel underneath your hair.

Step 2:
Grab the towel and pull gently upwards. You can repeat this as needed and hold for a few seconds every time you pull upwards. You can do this technique while lying down. If you are lying down, have a friend or your partner help you. This is the best way to open up that space between the discs in your neck.

You can watch me demonstrate the technique in the video below. If you would like to have a more in-depth conversation about your health goals or questions about neck pain, be sure to contact us to set up an appointment or discovery visit.
